This Customs, Duties & International Shipping Charges Policy explains how customs charges, import duties, taxes, courier handling fees and international shipping charges may apply when buying from DonCapi.com.
This policy is especially relevant where:
- an order is shipped internationally;
- a customer is outside the United Kingdom;
- a product is shipped from a supplier or fulfilment partner outside the customer’s country;
- customs clearance is required;
- import taxes or local delivery fees may apply.
This policy should be read together with our Delivery Policy, Returns & Refunds Policy, Terms and Conditions, Payment Methods, Cancellation Policy, and any delivery information shown at checkout.
Nothing in this policy removes or reduces your statutory rights.
1. Who We Are
DonCapi™

In this policy, “DonCapi™”, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to DonCapi™. “You” and “your” refer to customers, recipients and users of DonCapi.com.
2. Why Customs Charges May Apply
Customs charges may apply when goods move across borders.
These charges may include:
- import VAT;
- customs duty;
- excise duty, where relevant;
- local sales tax;
- courier handling fees;
- customs clearance fees;
- postal administration charges;
- brokerage fees;
- import processing fees.
The exact charges depend on the destination country, product type, product value, origin of goods, delivery method and local customs rules.
3. UK Customers Receiving Goods From Outside the UK
If an item is sent to a UK customer from outside the UK, customs, VAT or duty rules may apply.
Customers in Great Britain may need to pay VAT, Customs Duty or other charges if goods are sent from outside the UK.
Customers in Northern Ireland may have different rules depending on where goods are sent from and applicable UK/EU arrangements.
The parcel company, courier or postal operator will usually contact the recipient if payment is required before delivery or collection.
4. Orders Worth More Than £135
For goods sent from abroad to the UK, charges may depend on the value of the goods.
UK guidance states that goods worth more than £135 may require VAT to be paid to the delivery company before the goods are delivered or when they are collected.
Customs Duty may also apply depending on the goods and circumstances.
These rules may change, so customers should check official customs guidance if unsure.
5. Customers Outside the UK
If you order from outside the UK, your order may be treated as an import into your country.
You may be responsible for:
- import VAT;
- customs duty;
- local taxes;
- courier handling fees;
- customs clearance fees;
- brokerage fees;
- postal fees;
- other charges imposed by your country.
These charges are set by your local authorities, customs office, courier or postal service. DonCapi™ does not control them.
6. Who Pays Customs Charges?
Unless clearly stated otherwise at checkout, the customer or recipient is responsible for customs charges, import duties, taxes and courier handling fees charged by the destination country.
If charges are due, the courier, postal service or customs authority may contact you directly.
DonCapi™ is not responsible for paying import charges unless we clearly agree this before purchase or the checkout clearly states that duties and taxes are included.
7. Duties and Taxes Included vs Not Included
Some ecommerce orders may be sent using different international shipping models.
Duties and taxes not included
This means the customer may need to pay import charges before delivery or on collection.
Duties and taxes included
This means applicable import charges may be collected at checkout and handled by the seller, courier or shipping provider.
Unless DonCapi.com clearly states that duties and taxes are included, you should assume that customs charges may be payable by you on delivery or collection.
8. Checkout Delivery Charges Are Not Always Customs Charges
Delivery charges paid at checkout may only cover shipping.
They may not include:
- import VAT;
- customs duty;
- local tax;
- courier handling fees;
- customs clearance fees;
- brokerage charges;
- storage fees;
- return-to-sender charges.
If duties or taxes are not collected at checkout, they may be requested separately by the courier or customs authority.
9. Customs Delays
International delivery may be delayed by customs.
Delays may happen because of:
- customs inspection;
- incomplete paperwork;
- incorrect address;
- unpaid customs charges;
- local import rules;
- courier processing;
- public holidays;
- strikes;
- high parcel volume;
- security checks;
- product restrictions.
DonCapi™ cannot fully control customs processing times.
10. Customs Documentation
International shipments may require customs documentation.
This may include:
- product description;
- product value;
- country of origin, where available;
- tariff or commodity code, where required;
- sender details;
- recipient details;
- order invoice;
- shipping label.
Customs declarations must be accurate. DonCapi™ cannot falsely mark orders as gifts, reduce declared values, or provide misleading customs information.
11. Refusing to Pay Customs Charges
If you refuse to pay customs charges, the parcel may be:
- held by customs;
- delayed;
- returned to sender;
- destroyed;
- abandoned;
- subject to extra fees;
- subject to storage charges.
If an order is returned because customs charges were refused or unpaid, DonCapi™ may deduct reasonable shipping, return, customs, storage, handling or administration costs from any refund where lawful and fair.
If the parcel is destroyed or abandoned because charges were not paid, a refund may not be possible unless required by law.
12. Uncollected International Parcels
If an international parcel is not collected, it may be returned, delayed, destroyed or held by the courier.
You are responsible for checking delivery notices, tracking updates, courier messages and customs payment requests.
If a parcel is returned because it was not collected, reasonable costs may be deducted from any refund where lawful.
13. Incorrect Address and Customs Issues
You are responsible for providing an accurate delivery address and contact details.
Incorrect or incomplete details may cause:
- customs delay;
- failed delivery;
- return to sender;
- additional courier fees;
- inability to contact you about customs charges;
- lost parcel investigation delays.
If you notice an address error after ordering, contact us immediately:
We cannot guarantee address changes once an order is processed, produced, packed, dispatched or sent to a fulfilment partner.
14. Product Restrictions
Some products may be restricted or prohibited in certain countries.
Restrictions may apply to:
- materials;
- animal-derived components;
- leather or wool products;
- cosmetics or grooming items, if sold;
- jewellery or metal accessories;
- printed slogans or symbols;
- packaging materials;
- product labels;
- country-specific import rules.
Customers are responsible for checking whether products can be imported into their country before ordering.
If customs refuses a parcel because the product is restricted in your country, refund options may depend on whether the parcel is returned and the costs involved.
15. International Returns
International returns may be more complex than UK returns.
You may be responsible for:
- return postage;
- customs forms;
- return customs declarations;
- courier fees;
- tracking;
- insurance;
- import or export charges;
- local postal rules.
Before returning an international order, contact:
Please do not send international returns without return instructions.
The correct return address may depend on the product, supplier or fulfilment partner.
16. Returned Goods and Customs Forms
When returning goods internationally, you should complete customs forms accurately.
Where appropriate, mark the parcel as a return of goods, not a new sale.
Incorrect customs paperwork may cause:
- extra charges;
- delays;
- refusal;
- return to sender;
- lost parcel investigation issues.
You should keep proof of postage and tracking.
17. Refunds and Customs Charges
DonCapi™ can usually only refund amounts paid directly to DonCapi™.
We may not be able to refund:
- import VAT paid to customs;
- customs duty paid to authorities;
- courier handling fees;
- brokerage fees;
- local taxes;
- postal administration fees;
- storage fees;
- bank currency conversion fees.
If you want a refund of customs charges, you may need to contact the courier, postal operator or customs authority in your country.
Refund rules may vary by country.
18. Currency Conversion
Prices on DonCapi.com may be shown in pounds sterling or another displayed currency.
If you pay from outside the UK, your bank or payment provider may apply:
- exchange rates;
- currency conversion fees;
- international transaction fees;
- card issuer charges.
DonCapi™ does not control these fees and cannot usually refund them.
19. International Delivery Estimates
International delivery estimates are not guaranteed unless clearly stated as guaranteed.
International delivery may be affected by:
- customs clearance;
- courier handovers;
- local postal systems;
- remote delivery areas;
- public holidays;
- destination country delays;
- unpaid duties or taxes;
- supplier or fulfilment location;
- split deliveries.
Please read our Delivery Policy for more details.
20. Split International Deliveries
Some orders may be shipped in separate parcels.
This may happen if:
- products come from different suppliers;
- items are made-to-order;
- items are fulfilled by different partners;
- products are stored in different countries;
- one item is ready before another;
- parcel size or weight requires separate shipments.
Separate parcels may be assessed separately by customs, meaning charges may apply to more than one parcel.
21. Supplier-Direct and Overseas Fulfilment
Some DonCapi™ products may be shipped directly by selected suppliers, print-on-demand providers, dropshipping partners or fulfilment partners.
This may mean a product is sent from a country different from the customer’s country.
Where possible, DonCapi™ aims to provide useful delivery information on product pages or at checkout.
However, customers should be aware that overseas fulfilment may lead to customs charges or longer delivery times.
22. Gifts
If DonCapi™ offers gift options, this does not mean an order can be falsely declared as a customs gift.
Commercial orders must be declared honestly.
DonCapi™ cannot mark an order as a gift simply to avoid customs charges.
23. Legal and Regulatory Changes
Customs, VAT, import duty and international shipping rules can change.
DonCapi™ may update this policy when rules, delivery methods, supplier arrangements or international selling practices change.
Customers should check official customs guidance in their country if unsure.
24. Contacting Customs or Couriers
If customs charges are due, you may need to deal directly with:
- courier company;
- postal operator;
- customs authority;
- local tax authority;
- import broker.
DonCapi™ may not be able to pay, dispute or remove charges imposed by customs or couriers.
However, if you need order information to help with a customs enquiry, contact:
